This study examines the phenomenon of the "second culture" within the context of Czech history, focusing on the specific characteristics of resistance against official ideology. Despite the long-term and intense ideological pressure exerted on the Czech nation, a comprehensive and parallel cultural structure capable of fully competing with the state-sponsored culture across all fields of social and artistic life failed to emerge. The author compares the Czech situation with developments in neighboring Poland, where the tradition of independent culture was significantly stronger and more organized. The text highlights a notable delay in the Czech environment relative to global trends and reflects on the reasons behind the absence of an ambitious alternative culture standing in direct opposition to the establishment. This reflection on cultural history provides insight into the mentality of Czech society and its approach to ideological oppression throughout modern history, emphasizing the fragmentation and lack of continuity in the oppositional efforts of that period.
