This text presents a contribution from a panel discussion reflecting on the legacy of Charter 77 and the ongoing struggle for human rights. The author firmly rejects the label of veteran and resists the societal tendency to relegate former dissidents to a historical museum. He argues that those who were active in the past must continue to engage with contemporary society. The core of the argument defines Charter 77 not as a dynamic movement, but as a stable ethical and legal position anchored in two principles: the orientation toward human rights and the principle of legality. This specific focus allowed it to serve as a broad platform for diverse individuals. Furthermore, the author critiques the traditional natural law interpretation of human rights as philosophically inadequate. He emphasizes the urgent theoretical task of reimagining the concept of human rights more profoundly. The text serves as both a historical reflection and a call for continued intellectual and civic engagement.
