This text analyzes Arnold Gehlen's specific terminology in his work "Moral and Hypermoral," focusing on his use of the phrase "behind the back of consciousness" instead of the more common "subconscious." Gehlen uses this turn of phrase to highlight the temporal character of consciousness rather than just its hidden layers. He points out the tension and contradiction between long-term biological evolution and the short-lived, hurried pace of culture. The author explores what this concept offers beyond the traditional notions of the unconscious or subconscious. The phrase "behind the back" encompasses both things that have left consciousness but remain retrievable through memory, and experiences that have never been part of conscious memory but may eventually penetrate it with a significant delay. By shifting the perspective from vertical depth to a temporal and structural background, Gehlen captures the complex switching points between organic development and cultural expression. This analysis emphasizes how Gehlen's terminology provides a more nuanced understanding of the relationship between biological foundations and the rapid development of human civilization.

[Gehlen / vědomí a podvědomí]
