This seminar focuses on the seminal work of German theologian Eberhard Jüngel titled "Gott als Geheimnis der Welt" (God as the Mystery of the World). The course was held during the winter semester of the 1997–1998 academic year at the Protestant Theological Faculty of Charles University, co-led by Associate Professor Jan Štefan. The primary objective of the meetings was a detailed reading and interpretation of Jüngel's theological ontology, which seeks to rethink the language about God in the context of modern atheism and metaphysics. The text explores the relationship between God's love and death, emphasizing the cross as the focal point of Christian proclamation. Participants met regularly on Tuesdays to analyze Jüngel’s conception of God as the one who comes to the world and to critically evaluate his contribution to contemporary systematic theology. The seminar provided a space for profound reflection on the possibilities and limits of human knowledge regarding the divine mystery within a secularized world.
