Although analyses by other thinkers are valuable, they should not be the sole focus, as this leads to a decline into historicism. Genuine, active philosophizing is currently threatened by a tendency to replace living thought with pseudo-philosophical commentary that treats past thinkers as mere objects or things to be described from a distance. Reading original texts is presented as the only way to enter into an authentic dialogue with a philosopher without turning them into external objects of study. The aim is to preserve philosophy as a vital and active pursuit, resisting the move toward non-philosophical positions that merely talk 'about' philosophy. By engaging directly with primary sources, one avoids the pitfalls of historical reductionism and maintains the dynamic nature of philosophical inquiry.
