This document reviews the first volume of the "Anthology of the History of Czechoslovak Philosophy" (1963), which aims to revive and critically engage with the Czech and Slovak philosophical tradition for the new Marxist philosophy. The review emphasizes the need to connect with predecessors and opponents for Czechoslovak philosophy to establish itself and articulate its goals. The anthology covers the period from the beginnings of national history to the mid-19th century, including texts by Hus, the Taborites, Chelčický, Comenius, Slovak thinkers like Bayer, Caban, Kollár, Štúr, and also figures like Bolzano and Palacký. Although the anthology is deemed meritorious and useful, especially for making less-known texts accessible, the reviewer points out certain shortcomings in the balance of author and text selection, such as the omission of humanists or the missing attribution of commentaries. Despite these reservations, satisfaction is expressed with the first volume, along with anticipation for the second.
