This 1995 lecture examines the concept of faith within the European context. The author argues that the current Christian understanding of faith is actually of Greek origin and poses a problem for contemporary Europe, which is searching for its identity. This issue lies in so-called 'objectifying thought,' which prioritizes objective intentions over non-objective ones. In the case of faith, this means focusing on its 'objects' (e.g., God) rather than on the essence of faith itself. The author cites Ebeling, who posits that faith does not have a constant object. The discussion draws upon the duality of European activism – Greek cognition and the Hebrew 'anti-archetype,' symbolized by Abram's exodus into the unknown. Faith is then understood as an orientation towards the future and the future itself. It explores the connection between faith and truth, referencing the Hebrew root of the word for faith and its translations into Greek and Latin. It questions what is truly reliable, emphasizing the transience of the present world against the resilience of what is to come. Finally, it calls for trust in the future and for abandoning 'settling into givens,' relating this to the difference between mere maintenance and true development.
Dva zdroje evropského aktivismu: řecké poznání a hebrejský antiarchetyp
Vyjití Abrama do neznáma exodus z Egypta (generační)
Souvislost víry a pravdy: hebrejský kořen ´-m-n
Překlady do řečtiny (LXX) a do latiny (Vulgata)
Jsoucí a nejsoucí
Pomíjivost jsoucího a nezdolnost toho, co přichází
Důvěra v budoucnost a „chudí“: nezabydlit se v danostech pravá jsoucna!
