This text explores the concept of Israel's chosenness, interpreting it not as a privilege or merit, but as a specific commission for a demanding historical task. This election is not meant to incite envy; rather, it represents an extraordinary burden and responsibility. The author applies this perspective to the figure of Jesus of Nazareth, questioning the notion of his pre-existence from the beginning. Instead, it is argued that Jesus was chosen through his mission, just as Israel became a new and unprecedented element in history. The reflection critically addresses the historical opposition to adoptionism, suggesting that such theological stances lead to an ahistorical understanding of both Israel and Jesus as predestined entities. The document emphasizes the necessity of viewing these theological phenomena within their historical novelty and specificity, thereby rejecting purely deterministic interpretations that would deny the dynamic character of the historical process and the authenticity of a calling occurring within time.
