This text explores the nature of the whole and the process of its birth, based on the thesis that every true whole is an event in time defined by a beginning and an end. The author focuses on the ontological difference between a mere heap and a whole that is born. Citing Seneca, the text emphasizes the necessity of unity for any birth, as nothing can emerge without unification. The reflection further turns to the ancient Greek concept of physis, which inherently involves the process of being born and growing, suggesting that the character of birth is primarily associated with living beings, though its validity may be broader. A key problem is determining the beginning of a whole; the author argues that the beginning cannot be an external element, but only something that is already an integral part or component of the whole itself. The text thus invites a deeper consideration of how we recognize the structure and genesis of temporal events, highlighting our cognitive limitations in interpreting these fundamental ontological processes within the flow of time.
