This text examines the methodology of reading philosophical works, distinguishing between two primary approaches. The first approach aims for mere familiarity with the text, where the reader focuses on the author's clear and transparent statements to confirm engagement. The second, deeper approach seeks a genuine understanding of the underlying ideas. This requires paying close attention to less clear passages and asking questions that the text may not explicitly answer, necessitating the reader's own interpretive effort and willingness to revise their findings. Most importantly, deep reading involves extending the author's thoughts beyond their original formulation. The reader should not merely investigate what the author intended but should attempt to think through the ideas even where the author did not explicitly state them or where the thoughts transcend the author's original scope. This process is characterized as a unilateral dialogue, a collaborative mental movement where the reader goes with the author beyond the author themselves. Such an interpretation is not arbitrary but represents a rigorous engagement with the inherent potential of philosophical thought.

Tady potom nastává rozhodující metoda přístupu: když jde o pouhou obeznámenost s autorovým textem, věnujeme svou plnou pozornost tam, kde se autor výrazně, jasně a co možná průhledně (zřetelně) sám vyslovuje.
