This reflection critically examines the use of the term transcendentals and the nature of transcendental philosophy within the established philosophical tradition. The author questions the appropriateness of the term "transcendental," arguing that the prefix "trans-" evokes the idea of ascending toward higher planes, whereas the true essence of such thinking lies in descending into depth and uncovering the ultimate presuppositions of reason. The text emphasizes that this is not a metaphorical "climbing" (scando), but a process of reflection—a "bending back" of thought toward its own, initially unconscious foundations. These foundations are not external objects but are already present within thought without being intentionally pre-established. The author concludes that Kantian terminology, even in a reinterpreted form, remains unsuitable and misleading for describing this return to one's own prerequisites. It obscures the actual character of the inquiry, which focuses on the unconscious fundamentals of reason's own functioning rather than on suprasensory spheres.

Transcendentalia
