This academic text explores profound philosophical reflections on the complex nature and direction of time, challenging the widely accepted yet simplified assumption of linear causality between the past, the present, and the future. The author examines various and often conflicting perspectives on how time flows and how its distinct components interact within human consciousness. Key examples included in the discussion are James Joyce's unique view, where the present actively gives birth to the future while simultaneously consuming the past, and the perspective of the ancient Greek playwright Sophocles, who envisioned time as an immeasurable force that brings hidden things to light only to eventually conceal them again in oblivion. The primary objective of the text is to highlight the significant and fascinating diversity in the human understanding of time, which persists despite the fact that all individuals share a common temporal reality. This plurality of interpretations suggests that the human experience of time is not uniform but is heavily shaped by subjective perception, philosophical frameworks, and cultural contexts. Ultimately, the text raises fundamental questions about the ontology of time and its profound impact on human existence, history, and our collective placement within the temporal stream.

Budoucnost a „směr“ času
