This text examines Karl Jaspers' concept of "the Encompassing" (das Umgreifende) and critically highlights the perceived lack of a thorough investigation into its temporal dimension. The author argues that human existence is encompassed not only spatially but also fundamentally temporally, being constantly caught between a past that persists and an undetermined future that represents both potential and threat. A central question is the ontological status of that which "no longer is" and that which "is not yet." The text challenges traditional ontological frameworks that might dismiss these states as mere "nothingness." Instead, it suggests the existence of a specific sphere situated between nothingness and traditional "being," where Jaspers' Encompassing might be located. This reflection opens up a path for a new interpretation of temporality within existential philosophy, one that better captures the dynamics of human presence in the world and the inherent tension between past determination and the openness of future possibilities.
