This text from March 1990 reflects on the concept of authenticity, a prominent theme during the 1950s and 1960s. The author distinguishes between authenticity understood as "naturalness" (governed by Physis) and the authenticity of the subject itself. While every human action may appear inauthentic from the perspective of pure naturalness, the subject only gradually establishes, develops, and modifies its own authenticity through its personal history and specific actions. This subjective authenticity is not innate to the subject but is the result of individual effort and self-constitution. There is a constant tension between naturalness and subjective authenticity: the more an action is authentic in relation to the subject's internal integrity, the less "natural" it is, and vice versa. However, a return to original, long-lost naturalness is no longer possible. If a subject attempts to revert to this state at the expense of its hard-won authenticity, it becomes a perverted subject that easily falls prey to demons and evil. Subjectivity is thus viewed as a process of continuous choice in opposition to the fixed order of nature.

[Subjekt a jeho autentičnost]
Paris, 12. 3. 90
