This text explores the nature of practicing philosophy, challenging the traditional notion of an "introduction to philosophy." The author posits that individuals in the European cultural sphere are already inherently introduced to philosophical frameworks through pervasive techno-science. Authentic philosophical engagement is described as a rigorous pursuit that demands total dedication, primarily through continuous reading, writing, and interpretation. Such a lifestyle requires an immense amount of time and near-complete liberation from mundane concerns, including basic physiological needs like sleep and food, which are viewed as regrettable interruptions. The text highlights the necessity of intellectual and material independence, suggesting that true freedom for philosophical inquiry often requires specific personal or financial circumstances, such as celibacy or inherited wealth. By drawing on historical anecdotes, the author emphasizes that profound thinking is only possible when one is unburdened by everyday obligations. Ultimately, philosophy is presented not as a casual hobby, but as an all-encompassing vocation that requires the sacrifice of standard social norms to maintain the depth and independence of thought.
