This text explores the relationship between Karl Jaspers’ concept of the "Encompassing" (das Umgreifende) and the notion of "non-objectivity" (nepředmětno). The author reflects on his own preference for the term "non-objectivity," a concept adopted from Jan Patočka and rooted in Hegelian terminology (ungegenständlich, nichtgegenständlich). While Jaspers situates that which eludes objective grasping as something surrounding us, the author emphasizes the dimension of inwardness, distinguishing it strictly from mere subjectivity. Jaspers remains critical of inwardness, likely fearing its conflation with subjectivity. The reflection further investigates Patočka’s intellectual trajectory, questioning what originally inspired his interest in non-objectivity and why he eventually deemed this path insufficient or unproductive, despite traces of it persisting in his later work. Ultimately, the text offers a philosophical inquiry into the terminological and ontological nuances between two approaches to that which escapes objectification, seeking to clarify the tensions between the encompassing external horizon and the non-objective internal depth within the tradition of modern European thought.

Objímající a „nepředmětno“
