This text analyzes the phenomena of competition and haste in contemporary science, with a particular focus on the natural sciences. The author criticizes the trend where researchers focus exclusively on minute details to ensure a high frequency of publication. The work argues that only partial results are currently considered full-fledged scientific outputs, while broader syntheses are perceived merely as secondary summary reports. This fragmentation of scientific inquiry results in the neglect of large and fundamental problems that cannot be easily divided into small, quickly publishable units. According to the author, true science suffers from this atomization because it loses the ability to see the bigger picture and address complex questions. The text warns that if the scientific system continues to prioritize quantity and speed over depth and comprehensive overview, the most important scientific challenges will gradually be eliminated from professional interest. The aim of this reflection is to stimulate discussion on the direction of modern research and the need to return to addressing major scientific themes despite the pressure for the constant production of small studies.
