This text explores the conceptualization of the early universe as presented in Steven Weinberg’s influential book "The First Three Minutes." Weinberg describes the Big Bang as an explosion that immediately filled all space with particles receding from one another at extreme temperatures. The author reflects on how, despite the decades passed since 1977, the fundamental imagery used by theoretical physicists has remained anchored in the concept of the particle. Even though these early entities were not ordinary matter, they were still envisioned as discrete objects. The text draws a parallel with contemporary superstring theory, noting that while strings possess strange and dynamic properties, they are still fundamentally treated as entities or "things" rather than "events." The author suggests that physics has yet to transition toward a purely event-based description of these fundamental components. This highlights a persistent paradigm in scientific thought that prioritizes object-oriented models over process-oriented ones when explaining the origin and structure of the cosmos, maintaining a link between classical particle physics and modern theoretical frameworks.
