This text explores the relationship between faith, incarnation, and historical tradition in response to the views of Willem Visser 't Hooft, who emphasizes the exclusivity of Christianity and its independence from human systems of thought. The author argues that although faith is anchored outside the world, its realization is necessarily bound to a specific spatiotemporal context and mode of thinking. The central motif is not a synthesis of faith with human systems, but rather its incarnation into structures provided by the past. This process of incarnation is impossible without continuity with the past, as it is only through new acts of faith that the past acquires its true meaning. Every such act of faith represents an event that simultaneously confirms and denies the past. This results in an internal differentiation of tradition into elements that are preserved and affirmed in the new context and those that are rejected. Faith, therefore, does not destroy the past but creatively transforms it and redefines its essence within the current world.
