This text analyzes postmodernism as a flawed reaction to positivism, particularly within the Czech intellectual context influenced by Marxism-Engelsism. The author argues that while positivism limits itself strictly to facts and dismisses anything else as myth or ideology, postmodernism swings to the opposite extreme. This shift is characterized by a return to myth, narrativity, and rhetoric instead of logical argumentation. A fundamental commonality between positivism and postmodernism is their rejection of 'validity' that is not based on what is merely given or existing. Both movements remain confined within a framework that refuses to acknowledge non-objective challenges or truths that demand a response beyond the realm of factual entities. By critiquing these philosophical positions, the text highlights how both systems fail to address the concept of normative validity. Ultimately, it reveals that postmodernism, despite its rejection of positivist rigor, shares a similar ontological limitation by ignoring the transcendent nature of truth and obligation that exists beyond the simple facts of the world.
