This text explores the necessity of a critical approach toward sensory data and the interpretation of linguistic expressions within the broader context of human knowledge. The author argues that sensory perceptions and words cannot be accepted uncritically, as common linguistic conventions can often be significantly misleading. A word only truly functions as such when its auditory or graphic representation is linked to a specific, deeper meaning. The text illustrates this discrepancy using examples of idiomatic expressions, such as "the sun has set," where the literal meaning does not correspond to physical reality or the speaker's actual intent. Just as with visual perceptions, it is crucial to distinguish between the physical manifestation of a sound and the actual object or idea it aims to represent. Therefore, critical reflection is essential to avoid being misled by the superficial form of a message and to correctly grasp its inner content and intention. The reflection emphasizes that true understanding requires an active interpretation that transcends mere sensory reception, taking into account the historical and contextual evolution of language and its relationship to reality. The author thus highlights the gap between sensory perception and the cognitive processing of reality, urging constant vigilance regarding established phrases.
