This text examines the ontological distinction between a specific person as a real being and the concept of "man" as an intentional object or mental construction. The author begins with a practical example of recognizing identity, where we acknowledge a person through a general category. The core problem identified is the tendency of Western metaphysics to equate these two distinct levels of existence. When reality is reduced to an intentional construction, it leads to a paradoxical outcome: that which is considered the unchanging essence amidst change—the core of reality in metaphysical tradition—does not actually exist and is effectively "nothing." The text provides a critical reflection on a philosophical tradition that seeks stability in abstractions at the expense of lived reality. This identification results in the emptying of the concept of being, as a static essence cannot capture the dynamic nature of human existence. The reflection thus points toward the necessity of distinguishing between the mental representation of reality and reality itself, challenging traditional notions of essence.
